What is SIP? How do I use SIP to call others?

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) defines a protocol or standard of communications for session-based technologies. Internet telephony is one popular (and driving) example, however, SIP is also used for instant message and other applications.

To make calls using SIP, you need a SIP-capable phone, softphone, or gateway.

For more information on SIP, please see http://www.cs.columbia.edu/sip/.
